The Canberra Nursery is at the heart of Greening Australia’s mission to restore landscapes and protect biodiversity.

Established in 1989 by former CEO Val Wiseman, it began on the Acton Peninsula and now thrives in Aranda, ACT. With the capacity to nurture up to 160,000 plants, the nursery plays a vital role in growing native species for large-scale revegetation projects across the region. We collect seeds from local species and grow them into  resilient plants that help bring degraded landscapes back to life. Take a peek into our nursery life here!

Where Our Plants Go

From eucalypts to native daisies, the plants grown at Canberra Nursery support a wide range of restoration projects. One of our most impactful efforts is helping restore habitat for the Superb Parrot, a vulnerable species found in inland NSW and northern Victoria.

Through long-term partnerships with landholders, we’re planting native trees and shrubs like eucalypts for nesting, hop-bush for food, and nectar-rich species to support young fledglings. These projects use a mix of tubestock planting and direct seeding, proven methods for creating diverse, resilient habitats at scale.

Why Volunteer With Us

Behind every thriving plant at Canberra Nursery is a volunteer who’s helped it grow. Whether you’re potting seedlings, collecting seeds, or helping with plant care, your time and energy directly support the restoration of Australia’s landscapes.

To date, around 1240 unique volunteers have joined us since 2020, bringing passion, care, and community spirit to every corner of the nursery.
