From 2017 to 2025, Officeworks and Greening Australia partnered to deliver Restoring Australia, an initiative that has planted 2 million trees across 2,664 hectares!

Together, we set out to make a lasting, positive difference to Australian ecosystems, with Officeworks advancing their goal of revitalising landscapes as part of its broader People and Planet Positive Plan. In the process we achieved:

About the Restoring Australia initiative

Restoring Australia was a national program designed to regenerate degraded Australian landscapes and restore vital wildlife habitat. Through this initiative, Officeworks and Greening Australia worked together to restore and conserve priority landscapes across the country, improving biodiversity and reconnecting fragmented bushland.

The program created and improved habitat for a range of threatened species including the Eastern Barred Bandicoot, Eastern Quoll, Eastern Bettong, Regent Honeyeater, Swift Parrot, Corangamite Water Skink and Brolga, helping to reverse their decline and support population recovery. By working closely with local landholders, the initiative also strengthened the productivity and ecological resilience of farming landscapes, improving shade and shelter for livestock while enhancing the health of soil and waterways.

Key project regions

Over eight years, the Restoring Australia partnership brought new life to 235 sites across Australia. In the Southern Highlands, 55,294 trees were planted to restore migratory habitat for the critically endangered Regent Honeyeater and Swift Parrot. On Kangaroo Island, 40,000 trees were planted to expand feeding habitat for the endangered Kangaroo Island Glossy Black-Cockatoo, which depends on Drooping Sheoak cones for food. In Gippsland’s Strzelecki Ranges, 183,010 trees were planted to recreate habitat corridors for species such as the Greater Glider and Strzelecki Koala.

Explore the map below to see where we made an impact together:

The first site: Julian von Bibra, Tasmanian Midlands

The first Restoring Australia seedlings were planted in 2017 on the farm of fourth-generation sheep grazier Julian von Bibra in Tasmania’s Midlands. Since that first planting, over 190,000 trees have taken root across 275 hectares. The restoration of land has been felt firsthand by Julian, who has seen an immediate micro-climate change on his property together with improved river health and water quality and renewed biodiversity of the land with native animals returning and bird life increasing.

“As farmers and landholders, it’s not just about the produce we take to market, we have the responsibility to manage the landscape for future generations and at times this can feel overwhelming. Having the support of Greening Australia and Officeworks is so important, it makes the bigger picture more achievable and provides the resource, expertise and funding to restore parts of the landscape in ways that complement our agricultural needs.” – Julian von Bibra
