About the Role

We are seeking a Nursery Manager to lead the overall management and operational performance of the Greening Australia nursery facility.

The role oversees plant production, nursery operations, staff leadership and quality standards to ensure plants are produced, maintained and supplied to restoration projects safely, efficiently and to required specifications.

The Nursery Manager works closely with restoration operations teams and project managers to align nursery production with project delivery timelines and ecological restoration objectives.

The role ensures the nursery operates in a safe, productive and environmentally responsible manner while supporting the successful delivery of Greening Australia restoration programs.

Nursery Operations

  • Oversee day to day nursery operations including plant receiving, propagation, maintenance and dispatch
  • Plan and coordinate nursery production schedules aligned to restoration project timelines
  • Monitor plant growth cycles and maintain plant health and survival rates
  • Manage irrigation, fertilisation and pest management programs
  • Maintain nursery infrastructure, equipment and growing systems

Team Leadership

  • Lead and supervise nursery staff and seasonal workers
  • Allocate work and coordinate daily nursery activities
  • Provide training and guidance on nursery practices and plant handling
  • Support a safe, collaborative and productive team environment

Quality Assurance and Plant Health

  • Maintain high standards of plant quality and biosecurity
  • Implement plant handling and production quality control processes
  • Ensure plants supplied meet project specifications and restoration standards

Health Safety and Compliance

  • Ensure nursery activities comply with WHS requirements
  • Maintain safe work practices and conduct risk assessments where required
  • Ensure compliance with environmental, biosecurity and nursery regulations

Inventory and Resource Management

  • Manage nursery inventory including seeds, growing media, tubes, fertilisers and equipment
  • Monitor stock levels and coordinate procurement when required
  • Maintain nursery production and inventory records

Project and Operational Coordination

  • Work closely with restoration teams and project managers to meet planting schedules
  • Coordinate plant dispatch and logistics to restoration sites
  • Provide updates on plant availability, stock levels and potential supply risks

About You

The Essentials:

  • Demonstrated experience managing or supervising a plant nursery or horticultural operation
  • Strong knowledge of nursery systems and plant management practices
  • Demonstrated team leadership capability
  • Ability to coordinate operational workflows and production schedules
  • Strong organisational and communication skills
