About Us

Canopy was established in 2016 to develop verified carbon credits from Greening Australia’s reforestation programs. Canopy is now one of the largest producers of carbon credits from biodiverse environmental plantings in Australia and is expanding into emerging environmental credit markets like water quality and biodiversity.

Canopy supports business, government and private investors to take action on the dual crises of climate change and biodiversity loss by helping them develop high impact nature-based solutions and selling high integrity environmental credits.

As a for-purpose company of Greening Australia, we work closely together on science-led projects that rebuild nature at a landscape scale to restore biodiversity, improve water quality and sequester carbon. These scaled up nature-positive solutions produce high integrity environmental credits and simultaneously create meaningful change for communities, economies and nature: helping vulnerable species, providing alternative income streams for First Nations Peoples and landholders, employing local contractors, and creating long-term protection for restored sites.

About the Role

We are seeking to include another experienced Carbon Technical Lead to provide high-level technical input into the design, delivery and evaluation of nature-based carbon projects across Australia. This role is central to ensuring Canopy’s projects are scientifically rigorous, compliant with evolving standards, and capable of delivering meaningful environmental and social outcomes.

You’ll collaborate with internal teams, external consultants, regulators and landholders to assess feasibility, guide project planning, and support the development of innovative nature-based solution products. You’ll also provide leadership and support to one technical specialist, helping to embed best-practice approaches and foster a high-performing, purpose-driven culture.

Key Activities

  • Contribute to the design, monitoring and delivery of nature-based carbon projects that integrate biodiversity, community, agricultural and water outcomes.
  • Provide technical services to ensure projects meet frameworks such as carbon methodologies, CarbonPlus, and relevant environmental legislation.
  • Plan and coordinate technical assessments to guide project feasibility, design and impact evaluation.
  • Support the development and definition of Canopy’s nature-based solution products for uptake across commercial and operational teams.
  • Provide leadership to a technical specialist, fostering a culture of accountability, efficiency and continuous development.
  • Facilitate communication with landholders, regulators and partners, and strengthen networks aligned with Canopy’s mission and commercial goals.
  • Collaborate on tender writing and identify opportunities in carbon, water and biodiversity markets.
  • Assist in project budgeting, manage billable time and provide advice on cost control and future planning.

About You

The Essentials:

  • Extensive experience in environmental management or consulting, ideally in nature-based or restoration projects.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in biology, ecology, environmental science or a related field.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to provide sound scientific advice.
  • Experience in project investigations, compliance frameworks and environmental credit schemes (carbon, biodiversity or water).
  • Technical experience using GIS applications.
  • Effective communicator with proven ability to write technical reports and proposals, engage stakeholders and deliver presentations.
  • Collaborative team player with initiative and ability to work independently.

The Nice to Haves:

    • Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant field.
