Mastercard's Priceless Planet Coalition

Greening Australia is planting 430,000 biodiverse, native and locally appropriate trees for Mastercard’s Priceless Planet Coalition. Planting is rolling out in New South Wales and Victoria across the 2021 and 2022 planting seasons, through our Great Southern Landscapes and Nature in Cities programs. This partnership will help to meet our impact goals for 2030 and bring vulnerable Australian landscapes back to life, particularly those plants and animals that are vulnerable to bushfire impacts.

Supported by Conservation International, the global delivery partner for the Priceless Planet Coalition, Greening Australia is planting in the following areas to restore landscapes.

Great Southern Landscapes

  • Planting 400,000 trees via a combination of hand-planting and direct seeding in 2021.
  • Targeting plantings to support threatened species and habitat connectivity for wildlife, such as the Superb Parrot, and nationally-listed Regent Honeyeater and south-eastern Red-tailed Black Cockatoo.
  • Working with landholders to improve the health of their land through biodiverse plantings.
  • Planting in NSW Southern Tablelands and Riverina.
  • Planting in Victoria’s Gippsland, Habitat 141 region, Otways and Victorian Volcanic Plains.

Nature in Cities

  • Planting 30,000 trees in urban areas in 2022.
  • Planting in Western Sydney to recreate the habitat structure of the critically-endangered Cumberland Plain Woodland ecological community.
  • Targeting plantings to encourage the return of small woodland birds such as the Hooded Robin and other threatened species that call this habitat home.

The Priceless Planet Coalition aims to restore 100 million trees across the globe by 2025, recognising – as we do – that restoring forests is a simple yet powerful way of capturing carbon dioxide and mitigating climate change, as well as delivering a range of other social and environmental benefits.
