We believe that people thrive when nature thrives. Our personal, social and economic wellbeing are all inextricably linked with our land and sea. A healthy environment provides us with fresh air to breathe, clean water to drink, healthy soils for growing our crops, and medicine to heal us. Resilient ecosystems help to mitigate the effects of climate change.

But our environment and our biodiversity are in decline; more than 1,700 species and ecological communities are known to be threatened or at risk of extinction.

By restoring Australia’s fragile and diverse ecosystems and habitat, we restore local economies with them, helping to create healthy, productive landscapes where people and nature can thrive.

Plants

Plants provide food and shelter for Australia’s unique wildlife and create healthy landscapes for people to live, work and play in. Over time, we’ve lost a significant amount of our native habitat – putting over 1,000 species of plants at risk of extinction. We are working to reverse this damage, bringing habitat back and relinking it by planting a diverse mix of tens of thousands of trees, shrubs and grasses in landscapes across Australia every year.

Animals

Australia is one of the world’s biodiversity hotspots. Eighty-four percent of our mammals, 45% of our birds and 89% of our inshore fishes are found nowhere else on Earth, making safeguarding their futures even more critical. Since European settlement, we have seen a significant decline in the population of many of our native wildlife – and the threats they face are growing. To help curb these losses and ensure healthy populations into the future, we are restoring and protecting thousands of hectares of habitat every year to provide food and shelter for native wildlife across Australia.

People

We think that the best way to create healthy, productive landscapes is to involve the people that live and work in them. In turn, healthier landscapes mean more productive farmlands, more delicious, local food for our communities and a boost to local economies. Over time our agricultural and urban landscapes have become degraded, creating serious problems for wildlife, native habitats and people. We work to bring balance back to the natural environment in ways that work for communities, economies and nature through sustainable agriculture, Indigenous land management, public education and community engagement.
