Sustainability Toolbox forum at Narmbool for schools
Greening Australia and Sovereign Hill delivered the second annual Regional Toolbox for Environmental Change forum in Victoria on Friday June 18 " 2010.
The event was again held at the Narmbool Environmental Discovery Camp, south of Ballarat. The forum was design to inspire and support sustainability education in regional schools, a need identified after delivering a decade of Melbourne based Toolbox Forums.
This year’s regional forum brought together 85 participants including teachers, exhibitors, workshop presenters, keynote speakers and community members. 56 organisations including 23 schools were represented at the event.
The day was opened by Peter Preuss of Greening Australia. The plenary session was then MCed by Tim Sullivan of Sovereign Hill and a ‘Welcome to Country’ was delivered by Gunditamara elder, Uncle Ted Lovett.
Keynote speakers were Peter Gell and Stephen Carey from the university of Ballarat and environmental comedian Rod Quantock.
Various sustainability and environmental organizations delivered 10 workshops and 16 displays throughout the day including Central Highlands water, Cool Australia, Etiko Fair Traders (our Green Tree shirts are from this supplier), Sustainability Victoria and Habitat Heroes. Participants also had a choice of amazing workshops including Indigenous Culture & Perspectives, ResourceSmart AuSSI (Vic), Biodiversity Snapshots, The Energy Picture Big and Small and How Much Life is in a Square Metre.
The forum was a great success so congratulations to all staff involved.
