If you have the responsibility of managing a habitat, or are simply interested in habitat management and conservation, then this highly acclaimed course is an essential.
It will challenge you, increase your understanding of ecological processes, and empower you to manage bushland with improved, and often minimalist, intervention practices.
Australia is facing a myriad of environmental challenges and the repair and management of our land is one of the greatest. Labelled as ‘mega-diverse’, Australia is one of the 12 richest countries in biodiversity, yet the most recent assessment indicates that Victoria is still losing an estimated 2,500 ha of native vegetation a year.
The course tackles environmental restoration and conservation as an integrated, whole of landscape approach and is conducted over a 15 week period. Weekly evening sessions focus on an aspect of environmental management whilst the 7 Saturday field trips complement the information in a practical and hands-on way. Presented by respected experts in the field, topics include:
Plant Identification, Bush Ecology, Animals in Bushland, Introducing Invertebrates, Weed Identification and Management, Managing Pests and Erosion, Site Assessment and Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, Revegetation Techniques and Seed Collection, Soils and Climate and Fire Management.
Past participants have ranged from beginners to those with more than 20 years bush management experience from backgrounds as diverse as; Parks Victoria, Local Government, private operators, developers, water authorities, community group members, residents and students. Their feedback includes:
