Land and Restoration Lead - Reef Aid Program

Location: Brisbane or Townsville, QLD

About the role

The position supports the achievements of GA in landscape restoration through land accumulation services and study as well as the development and application of best practice restoration science to planning and delivery of projects. This is a ‘hands on’, detailed and landholder interfacing role where both managing and doing the work is required. This role will be the primary point of on-ground contact to landholders.


Key Position Accountabilities

Key areas of accountability and outcomes include but are not limited to:

  • Provision of technical leadership and mentoring the on-ground delivery of Greening Australia’s projects
  • Providing technical input of new projects as well as support the delivery and technical management of existing projects.
  • Managing and coordinating all aspects of the landholder interface as well as on ground investigations and deliverables for feasibility in accordance with Greening Australia’s land accumulation system
  • Ensuring that all landholdings within the land register that are to be studied for environmental credits (e.g Carbon credits, Reef Credits (Water Quality), Biodiversity credits) have been studied and costed with deliverables in accordance with Greening Australia’s Land Accumulation System.
  • Undertake design, coordination and delivery of environmental assessments


Key Selection Criteria

  • Tertiary Qualifications in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering or related field.
  • Significant experience in the implementation of large and/or complex restoration/rehabilitation projects including specialist areas.
  • Experience and application of mapping software eg ARCGIS or similar.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with landholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise work teams, including the ability to lead staff members on difficult and challenging projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team, show initiative and to work unsupervised.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with experience in liaison with clients and partners, including the mining and infrastructure sectors, local and state government and relevant consultants/researchers.
  • Current ‘C’ Class Driver’s Licence.
  • Physically fit, able and willing to work in remote areas for both short and extended periods away from home.


Desirable Criteria 

  • Excellent written skills including writing proposals and reporting
  • Demonstrated experience in project management including financial tracking and reporting, scope management
  • Technical understanding in a related area (eg GIS, Botany, Soil Science, Erosion, Hydrology)
  • Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control
  • An understanding of Environmental Markets (Carbon Credits and Reef Credits)
  • Demonstrated competence in oral communication skills, including the ability to use PowerPoint and presentations
  • Understanding of occupational, health and safety, equity and diversity principles and practices.
