GIS Analyst

Location: Any Capital City with an Established Hub (i.e. Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, Sydney)

Salary: $75K – 85K + 12.25% super + salary packaging

About the Role

We are seeking an innovative GIS Analyst to provide geospatial science and technology services, assessing land opportunities for future restoration.

As a key player in our Land team, you will be responsible for undertaking modelling, planning, analyses, and mapping to assess the feasibility of Greening Australia’s land opportunities. You will have the opportunity to grow in this role, interacting across teams and programs within Greening Australia under the mentorship of the Director of Land.

Key Activities

  • Assess properties in Greening Australia’s pipeline using ecological and spatial expertise, and ensure prompt property assessment and communication of outcomes to stakeholders.
  • Identify potential property acquisitions by scanning real estate databases.
  • Review and update processes for undertaking pre-feasibility assessments.
  • Contribute to key projects in alignment with program themes, including spatial modelling and in-field GIS, and provide high-level mapping support to these projects and initiatives.
  • Support project design concepts and technical collateral by creating and updating technical workplans, actioning changes, variations, and requests related to preliminary and/or detailed designs.
  • Undertake carbon modelling, planning, analysis, and mapping, and assist other Greening Australia staff with relevant technical advice.
  • Provide GIS and spatial technical support across Greening Australia restoration programs and contribute to Greening Australia’s strategic planning processes.

About You

The Essentials:

  • Passion, commitment and a desire to grow and make a difference in the environmental sector
  • Tertiary qualifications in Biological/Environmental/Spatial Science, Geography or equivalent
  • Demonstrated experience using GIS applications such as ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, Advanced Excel, and Spatial Analyst Packages, including in-field data capture and data manipulation and management, and spatial analysis.
  • Excellent problem solving, critical thinking, analytical, conceptual, including technical report writing
  • Demonstrated communication skills and experience operating effectively within a collaborative and proactive team culture

The Nice to Haves:

  • Working knowledge of ecological restoration (including for biodiversity and/or carbon sequestration)
  • Remote sensing
  • Experience or qualifications in the conservation or environmental sector
