The Opportunity

We are seeking Casual Field Officers to support our local operations in Western Sydney.  Our depot is located in St Marys and our project sites span the Greater Western Sydney area.

There are exciting opportunities to either move across projects in restoration and community engagement or focus in on areas of capability/ interest.

This involves:

  • on-ground vegetation management services aimed at conserving and restoring the natural environment.
  • community events delivery (e.g., tree planting days) – including assisting in the engagement of school aged children, community members and corporates.
  • work directly alongside senior staff members to gain field-based skills & support delivery of in-field operations in an efficient, practical, and safe manner.
  • work on country and apply practical land management skills.

This is primarily an outdoors position which involves physical activities and the operation of equipment in a range of outdoor locations in a variety of weather conditions.

Key Selection Criteria

  • A current NSW driver’s licence with own transport to facilitate onsite starts across Greater Western Sydney.
  • Minimum 6 months demonstrated field experience in bushland management (conservation maintenance, bush regeneration / revegetation) – in either a paid or voluntary capacity. Exception can be made for Certificate II/ III Conservation and Land management students/ graduates.
  • Physical ability to carry out on-ground restoration work including but not limited to, weed control, planting, habitat rehabilitation, fencing, installation of jute matting, collection of plant material, watering and fertilising, cutting and swabbing and light construction.
  • Physical fitness, a solid work ethic, self-motivation, and ability to function in a team environment.
  • ChemCert qualifications.
  • A valid Working With Children Check (NSW) or Working With Vulnerable People check (ACT) or ability to obtain this.
  • Willingness and ability to interact with the broader community in a respectful and engaging manner.

Desirable Criteria

  • Manual driving ability.
  • Competency with towing single and dual axel trailers.
  • White Card.
  • A strong knowledge of local vegetation communities and local native plant and weed species.
  • Data input & Mapping skills.
