- Greening Australia and your school
Have you considered a revegetation project in your school?
A revegetation project is a great way to involve students in an interactive, stimulating, outcome driven project.
Your students can be involved right from the start and can help you with aims, objectives, ideas and solutions. The more your students are involved and understand the nature and purpose of the project, the higher their level of ownership and the more likely your project will succeed.
Your revegetation project can be as large or as small as you like. If this is new to you and your school it may be best to start with a smaller area.
Things to start thinking about
- An area of the school or surrounding environment that you would like to revegetate
- How you can involve the school community, local groups and friends of the school in the project
- What work will need to be done to prepare the area, can spraying or ripping (if necessary) be organised during school holidays
- A theme for the garden that the students can focus on - why not let them brainstorm ideas themselves
- A way of recording all the work and activities you do throughout the project - i.e. photos, video, paintings, storyboards
You are not on your own
Greening Australia are professional revegetators and can provide you with hands on and technical assistance with your project for a fee. We can work with your school in a number of ways including:
- Development of a master plan for your schools revegetation works
- Planning and facilitation of a revegetation project
- Interactive environmental education activities
- Professional development sessions for teachers
- School excursions
Costings are dependent on the scope and nature of the project. Please contact the School Program Coordinator on 03 9450 5321 or via email to discuss how Greening Australia can work with your school.
Don't forget that your school community is often an amazing source of assistance – we are often surprised with the expertise that parents and friends can offer! Also it is good to think about other ways in which you can source assistance and advice from others within your local area.
