Yarra River Recovery corporate planting day

Greening Australia offers corporate employees the chance to step out of the office and into the great outdoors for a day of tree planting that allows them to make a real difference to their local environment in a fun, informal atmosphere.

In 2007 fifty employees from ANZ, Ford and Esanda attended Greening Australia’s Corporate Planting Day on the banks of the Yarra River at Westgate Park, which lies beneath Melbourne’s iconic Westgate Bridge.  The corporate volunteers worked side-by-side with the Friends of Westgate Park and collectively planted over 1300 native trees, shrubs and grasses.  These plants will provide habitat for native wildlife and absorb carbon as they grow.  The corporate planting efforts will greatly enhance the aesthetic appeal of Westgate Park, which is an important ‘green spot’ in an intensely industrial area.

Corporate volunteers report a sense of satisfaction and achievement in contributing to the well-being of their local and global environment. The planting contributes to Greening Australia’s Yarra River Recovery project, one of the focus rivers of our National River Recovery program that seeks to engage and involve the community in on-ground efforts to restore and protect our iconic river systems.
