GreenGrid gets results

‘GreenGrid’ is a remarkable partnership between Greening Australia and TransGrid, owners and operators of high voltage electricity networks throughout New South Wales.

GreenGrid spans 10 years and is responsible for restoration works on an area the size of 1,500 football fields.  The project has directly engaged 280 landholders in the Murrumbidgee and Lachlan catchments of NSW.  Planting, direct seeding and fencing has been carried out on over 600 hectares of cleared farmland with support from a powerhouse of 1,400 volunteers representing Landcare, schools and notably, TransGrid and Greening Australia staff and friends. In 2005, the achievements of GreenGrid were recognised with a Prime Minister’s Community Business Partnership Encouragement Award.

To celebrate their long-term partnership and embrace future restoration challenges, TransGrid recently presented Greening Australia with a grant of $500,000 for the GreenGrid project.  The funds will enable implementation of significant on-ground works in the Yass region and other parts of NSW.  These works will target water quality, biodiversity and sustainability issues.  The funding will also support GreenGrid’s community engagement and education activities.
