Land for Wildlife is back in the top end!!!

Land for Wildlife is a free voluntary program by which landowners who wish to manage areas of their property for wildlife habitat are recognised for their efforts. Participants have access to support and assistance with regard to habitat management, protection and restoration through the Land for Wildlife Coordinator. The program also provides a link with like-minded people and the chance to network and share ideas through field days, workshops and other activities.

For all previous participants involved in Land for Wildlife through the Litchfield Shire and those who wish to become a part of the new phase of Land for Wildlife in the greater Darwin region, Greening Australia (NT) is now coordinating the program thanks to funding from the Territory Government, through their Territory Eco-Link initiative.

The Land for Wildlife program was introduced by the Litchfield Shire Council in 2001 and there are currently 185 registered Land for Wildlife properties within the Shire.  The new program started in June 2010 and funded through the Territory Government’s Territory Eco-link initiative, seeks to re-engage previous Land for Wildlife participants, as well as build on the existing network of registered properties in the greater Darwin region.  If you were involved in Land for Wildlife through the Litchfield Shire, please contact Greening Australia to renew your agreement and become part of the new network of Land for Wildlife property managers.

If you own a property in the greater Darwin region, are currently carrying out conservation initiatives on your land or want to find out where to start then please contact your Land for Wildlife Coordinator Greening Australia (NT) we will be in contact with you to arrange a time to visit you and discuss Land for Wildlife and how it benefits you.

Land for Wildlife was first started in Victoria in 1981 as a way to combat land degradation and the loss of native wildlife in rural areas.  In 2010 virtually every state across the country is running successful Land for Wildlife programs and achieving fantastic outcomes for conservation on privately owned land.
