Birdwatch: Bringing birds back
Greening Australia’s Birdwatch project began in 2000 when, with help from the Canberra Ornithologists Group (COG) and CSIRO Sustainable Ecosystems, we surveyed birds on 132 sites across the NSW Southern Tablelands.
Designed to investigate native bird use of revegetated habitat, the survey results were both surprising and encouraging, with 9,500 sightings of over 100 different bird species being recorded in four seasons! Greening Australia turned the Birdwatch results into a popular booklet called ‘Bringing Birds Back” which found its way into the hands of 10 000 farmers and bird enthusiasts alike. A second edition of Bringing Birds Back- a glovebox guide has now been printed.
