Who are we?

In Queensland Greening Australia draws together skills and knowledge from the community, research, and industry to bring you practical information, tested in the real world. Our programs include staff training for cutting edge environmental management, workshops aimed at community and industry, and customised accredited training to suit your needs.

We provide training for:

  • farmers and landholders
  • local councils
  • state and federal government departments
  • environmental professionals
  • infrastructure providers, including mining, power and transport companies
  • bush regenerators and botanists
  • community groups and residents.

The Training Team

Robin Thompson
Training Manager

Robin is the Training Manager based at our Norman Park office and works closely with the national training team ensuring any Nationally Recognised Training provided by Greening Australia and/or partnering agencies is compliant with the AQTF (Australian Quality Training Framework) Standards. Robin has over 15 years experience in the training industry with both international and domestic students.  Her roles have included QA Manager and Marketing Co-ordinator.

John Rakena
Project Supervisor

John came to Greening Australia Queensland in 2004 as a Green Corp Team Leader with a wealth of experience in youth supervision and community services. John has spent many years working with the Aboriginal and Islander Catholic council and as a Youth Worker at Darumbal Community Youth Services and is well respected in the local community for his work with youth.  John possesses certificates in Community Services, Workplace Training, Landscape Construction and Engineering which makes him a valuable member of our Traineeship Program.

Belinda Shaw
Project Manager (Pest Management)

Belinda brings to Greening Australia a wealth of technical expertise in Pest Management working for State and Local Governments coordinating pest management programs and assisting clients to tackle their pest management issues.  Belinda’s technical skills, understanding of legislative compliance and the client’s needs ensures that all training courses meets and exceeds the client's expectations.

Phil Murray
Landscape Designer, Norther Queensland

Phil is based in Townsville and works throughout North Queensland. Not only is Phil a Landscape Designer of note, he has a vast knowledge of horticulture and is involved in consulting, training, audits and assessment. Phil holds qualifications in Certificate of Horticulture – Urban Practices; Diploma of Horticulture specialising in Nursery, Landscaping, Turf and Green-Keeping; Certificate IV – Workplace Trainer and Assessor; Permaculture Design; Workplace, Health and Safety; Audits and assessment in Organic Horticulture; and is a Consultant in farm development. Phil joined Greening Australia in July 2006 following a successful career as Coordinator, Landscape and Horticulture, Parks and Gardens, Thuringowa City Council as well as being a TAFE Lecturer in Horticulture and Conservation and Land Management. Phil is a local identity in the Townsville Region and has a weekly radio segment on ABC Radio. Phil is presently training in Cert II CALM on Palm Island with a group of 18 residents of the Island.
