For the last five years I have been engaged in providing scientific advice for the assessment of drought and other climate-related impacts on agriculture and the natural environment. During this time large areas of regional Australia went through one of our worst droughts on record which quickly transformed in the last two years to record-breaking rainfall and significant flooding.
I was recruited to the Greening Australia Capital Region board a bit over four years ago and in that time I have seen GACR undergo some huge challenges, not the least being the Federation review. One can only speculate as to what changes the organisation will see in the next few years but based on past experience, like our recent climate, you can just about guarantee that it won’t be “average” or boringly dull: I am sure the future holds further challenges and some interesting opportunities and I am equally sure GACR is up for the challenge.
My involvement with GACR has highlighted to me just how talented the organisation is and how committed our people are to delivering first-class environmental outcomes through community engagement. I am proud to be part of such a great organisation.
