Over 2300 people took part in 10 community workshops and 15 Mobile Nurseries in this exciting environmental education program in Western Sydney. It reached a further 2500 people through six plant giveaways.
Through Generation Green Greening Australia developed the innovative "Mobile Nursery". It makes it easy for people to get involved in conservation by taking the nursery to a place that is convenient for them. Participants are given a talk on the Cumberland Plain Woodland and get hands-on potting up seedlings. Feedback has been fantastic and demand keeps on growing.
Generation Green also gave 10,000 native plants to individuals, Landcare groups, Wires, local nursing homes and fire brigades. All the plants were grown by our enthusiastic volunteers at the Greening Australia Community Nursery. NOVA Employment group, Wesley Mission, student volunteers and a youth at risk school all gained workplace skills through our nursery and bush regeneration activities.
Generation Green has delivered results beyond expectations in 2011 and Greening Australia looks forward to another exciting year in partnership with Boeing, delivering restoration in the flood affected areas of the Lockyer valley.
